How many African countries can you name?
Literally from memory, without googling or looking at a map of any kind (even a blank one):
Morocco
Western Sahara
Algeria
Tunisia
Libya
Egypt
Sudan
Chad
Niger
Mali
Mauritania
Guinea
Guinea-Bissau
Equatorial Guinea
Gabon
The Gambia
Liberia
Ghana
Burkina Faso
Cote D'Ivoire
Togo
Benin
Cameroon
Nigeria
Central African Republic
Ethiopia
Eritrea
Djibouti
Somalia
Uganda
Rwanda
Burundi
Malawi
Congo (Democratic Republic of)
Congo (Republic of)
Sao Tome %26amp; Principe
Tanzania
Kenya
Mozambique
Zambia
Zimbabwe
Angola
South Africa
Lesotho
Swaziland (for a total of 44 + 1 territory (Western Sahara))
(Countries that are often grouped with Africa but aren't always considered part of the continent:
Madagascar
Comoros
Seychelles (for a total of 47 + 1 territory)
How many African countries can you name?
Most the above, though I'd spell correctly:
Morocco
Cameroon
Mozambique
Madagascar
Malawi
Mali
(I'm spotting a problem with 'M's ;-)
Somalia
Mauritania
Namibia
Zambia
Zimbabwe
In English, "Ivory Coast" is more commonly used than "Cote d'Ivoire", possibly because doing circumflexes is hard on EN keyboards :-)
Congo-Kinshasa is normally called the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, or just Congo. Congo-Brazzaville is so called to distinguish it from its larger neighbour. Similar with the Guinea(-Conakry) %26amp; Guinea-Bissau
Western Sahara is not (as yet) a country, but a disputed territory. It was a Spanish colony, but in 1975 Spain pulled out. It was invaded by Morocco and Mauritania, both resisted by the local Polisario fighters. They pushed out Mauritania, but not Morocco. At present there is a stalled peace process to decide its future status. Most significantly, it's not recognised as being part of Morocco or any other nation.
There are also two self-proclaimed, but still unrecognised, countries in East Africa: Somaliland and Puntland. They seceded from Somalia when its central government broke down.
Comoros, Seychelles and Mauritius are in the Indian Ocean, so are arguably not part of Africa. However, so is Madagascar, which tends to regard itself as African. AFAIK all are members of the African Union. Cape Verde and Sao Tome %26amp; Principe, off West Africa, regard themselves as African.
North Africa also contains some small Spanish territories, such as Ceuta and Melilla.
All from memory!

OK, the above post disappeared. Here goes:

When will O-boy name an African American to his cabinet?
Probably won't. Only Republicans do that. It amazes me, how minorities vote Democrat, yet Republicans are the only ones that put minorities in positions of power when elected. Mr Bush had the most diverse cabinet ever seated. Look at Mr Clinton's. oops, that's right, Obama is nominating an AG named Token, my bad.
When will O-boy name an African American to his cabinet?
First of all Obama is Half white.
Beyond that, I would like to think that he will appoint the best candidate for each job, and not be immersed in the colour issue,as you are presenting yourself. Martin Luther King JR. said that he looked forward to a time when his children were not judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character.
I think it sad that a Canadian has to remind you of that fact.
Reply: Why does he need to name an Africian American boy to is cabinet he was born in Kenya anyway and is an African American boy? His Kenyan brith was just covered up.
Reply:I am not an Obama fan, but I think he did already, the Attorney General. Whatever the situation, you have to speak the truth.
Reply:Ummm...well, he already has one as AG. Why? What's the point of this question? I don't know how many people would be wondering when John McCain named a white person to his cabinet if he had won so...
Reply:Is this a serious question?
Eric Holder is African-American.
You're just pulling our legs, right? You knew that?
Or did you?
Reply:I wasn't aware that that was a rule. I thought the president could hire who ever he thought would be best for the job. Didn't know they had to be a certain race.
Reply:He has.
Eric Holder
Atty General
Reply:He already has, who do you think is Attorney General, weren't you just watching your source? Foxnews?
Reply:Where have you been?
He's appointing Eric Holder as Attorney General. That's been in the news for almost a week.
Reply:Haven't thought about it. Glad you have that on your mind.
Oh, dk, dc.
Edit:
The Clinton's.
Reply:I understand Charlize Theron is up for a cabinet post. She is African-American.
Reply:Shouldn't he name people he feels are the best qualified regardless of race and/or gender?
Reply:The attorney general will be a black guy.
Reply:Why, you interested?
Reply:He does not need them any more he won !
Reply:when people stop bickering about him
Reply:last week
Reply:i could have sworn he did
Reply:That is a silly question. He will elect whoever he feels is qualified to do that position.

What would be a good african-american name?
please, I don't mean to be offensive, but I have a project I need to do in class where you pretend to be a slave and write 4 paragraphs on who I am, how I escaped, how the Underground Railroad journy was, etc. I'm only 11 years old, and I'm sorry if I've offended anybody.
P.S. it's in the 1850s or so, so you can be more creative.
What would be a good african-american name?
Your question was justified and well put, no need to feel you've offended anyone.
Actually I would suggest that you keep it simple. No last name, BTW. Many slaves took the last name of their owners when they were freed (in 1863) but they didn't have birth certificates nor official names.
If your character is a boy/man-- Joe, Sam, Jake works
If your character is a girl/woman-- Sal, Mary, Susie would work.
Remember that the slaves were named by their owners, therefore they used basic names.
The slaves COULD have a given name by their parents to reflect their true heritage, but it would be kept secret, though the slave would know it, and perhaps treasure it.
But 1850 the origins of the slaves in America was Born In America. The import of new slaves had long since been stopped so Most of them, certainly all the young, were born here and didn't know anything about their heritage. THEY were taught by their parents however, and it would be a good thing to keep in mind even if you can't put it in your essay.
Reply:why don't you use your real name and tell your teacher that you had an african name and when you were brought here your slaveowner changed it so it's your "slave name"
Reply:IF U SEARCH "BLACK NAMES FROM THE 1800s " u'll find stuff. and since ur 11, u should have enough sense to know not to reveal your age online!
Reply:Latisha, Latoya for females
Tirone for a guy
Reply:Tanisha - which means born on Monday. You can also find more by googling african-american baby names for a girl or a boy. I used to do that before and that's how I got this one.
Reply:Slavery names were not African at all. They were a lot like pet names. I'm black so I'm not offended at all. Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriett Beecher Stowe is a good book about slavery and the Underground Railroad.
Reply:CAPUCHA good for your live ( change your name )

Reply:Latricia, Djion, and Spatlirea.
