Anyone got a truly South African (African) name out there?

What is it and what does it mean?





Unfortunately my parents werent creative enough. I think they were on something when they named me Innocentia - (its latin for Innocence) - totally un South African.





If you were to choose one, what would it be?

Anyone got a truly South African (African) name out there?

Both Xhosa and both names are unisex names.

Sadly, it doesn't mean as much as I would have hoped it would, but my mum said that she chose the name because she had met my dad on the Sunshine Coast...in the corals! Also totally unSouth African, but definitely Australian.

Reply:i don't have a south african name but my best friend has a little girl named mateha (i think that is how she spells it) it is pronounced Ma-tay-ah. it means little queen.

Reply:When I was in High School the guys used to call me Sharky.It was because I was so good at water polo and swimming.For 5 years in high school I was unbeaten in my age group and broke all records in the annual swimming gala.

Reply:I have an Italian name. I was named after my grandfather who fought in the war and came to South Africa soon after. He married a South African lady and so on and so on...


My parents nicknamed me WINTER with the Afrikaans pronunciation. Does that count? And can you guess my name?
