Not a good idea to name an African American Jackson?

What would you think of a white person who names an African American baby Jackson?

Would you think it was an inappropriate choice for a first name?

I am worried about people making a link to President Andrew Jackson, who wasn't the most open-minded person when it came to non-white races.

Not a good idea to name an African American Jackson?
I personally like the name Jackson... but if you feel like people will criticize you about the name, then don't name the baby Jackson. Good luck and God bless :)
Reply:I think it's a nice name and race shouldn't be an issue.
Reply:okocha
Reply:What the hell?

It's a great name, i know 2 black Jacksons and 4 white ones.

it's an english name, and i love the name Jackson for any ethnicity.
Reply:I think you are thinking way to much into it. I love the name Jackson and so does one of my black friends who is going to name her son Jackson when she has one. It's a cute name, people will find something out of every name to make fun of.
Reply:It is a good idea, i know many African Americans named Jackson.
Reply:Name it whatever you want it's your baby after all.
Reply:I go to school with 2 African-American

boys named Jackson but the other one spells like

Jaxon.

I think its fine. But "Jackson" dosent make me think

about Andrew Jackson,it makes me think about Hannah Montana and Michael Jackson.

lol.
Reply:I think Jackson is a cute name.

If I was you I wouldn't be worried about President Jackson, I'd be worried about MICHAEL Jackson causing troubles in that department. That's just me though. And don't get me wrong, Michael Jackson is like a musical genius... he just hasn't err... made the best decisions.

Good Luck.
Reply:I wouldn't have even thought of that.

Its a popular name and is appropriate for any race.

Now if it was something like Adolf on a little Jewish boy, I would say inappropriate, but that is a historical mark you don't want to touch.

Someone like Jackson, I don't think anyone would make the association, IMHO.
Reply:Congrats on the new baby! Jackson is a great first name, and believe me, Americans aren't that smart about their presidents. They're not going to think about any past presidents. Andrew Jackson isn't one of the most talked about in schools. Lincoln, Washington, Roosevelt..

Have fun with your baby! Name him whatever you want! :)
Reply:I think you're way off base. Very few people think about the president Andrew Jackson when they hear the name Jackson. And probably even fewer people think of racism even if Andrew Jackson does cross their mind. After all, there's Rev. Jesse Jackson and Michael Jackson (and all his siblings) that are much more recent famous people named Jackson and they also happen to be African American. Most people just think, "oh, that's a popular boy's name."
Reply:In the Army, Fort Jackson is called "Relaxin' Jackson" because they don't train as well or as hard as other units.

...not a good choice for an African-American male simply because of racial stereotyping (it's not right or acceptable but it does exist).
