Reply:Laila / Layla / Leila. Comes from Persian, means "night" or born at night or something like that. I always thought it was pretty and exotic, not too common, yet not way out there either. This is kind of weird, but I've also always liked Ryan for a girl. You can mix up the spelling but I think it sounds pretty. Anyway, whatever you choose I'm sure will be lovely -- and congrats!
Reply:nneka it means princess in swahille
Reply:I've always loved the name Yasmin or, alternately, Yasmine. Beautiful, elegant, clearly soulful but it could still be pronounced and spelled without much difficulty.

Good luck! I'll let you know if I think of any others. If you have a moment, please answer my naming question, too. Thanks.
Reply:I like the name of Debbie and Jackie for an african-american baby girl. They are both cute and strong names. By the way, congratulations for your baby and hope everything goes well with the baby ;o)

Reply:I agree with other posters, I really don't think it matters what race the baby is.

If you're wanting an African sounding name, which African country do you have ties to? (It would make it a lot easier because there are soooo many languages there!)

I looked up some African names and I have to warn you that some have "strange" meanings, as in, "Why would you name a baby that?" I put stars next to the African names I like.

Egyptian

-Dendera - from Dendera **

-Eshe - Life

-Femi- Love

Ghanaian

-Efia Ghanaian - born on Tuesday

-Kessie - fat at birth

Nigerian

Personally, I like Greek, Hebrew and Italian names. I'm really into the meaning behind the name, not something that sounds cool but means something ridiculous (Like some lady on another forum wanted to namer her daughter the British word for "wart.")

Greek

-Alethea - Truthful

-Daphne - Laurel

-Dora - A gift

-Katherine - Pure

-Sophia - Wisdom

Italian

-Bella - Beautiful

-Gianina - God is gracious

-Isabella - Consecrated to God.

-Gabriella - God is my strength

-Hadassa (Esther from the Bible's real name) - flowering myrtle

Reply:Does it really matter that she's African american? Can't you just ask for a good name?
Reply:When you hold her in your arms for the first time, a name will come to you and that's what she should be called.

And by the way - why does the baby's race matter when chosing a name? Did you think you'd get some people who say something ignorant like "Laquisha" or "Shantifa" just because you said the baby was African-American? Or like, if you specified Caucasian, people would say "Brittney" or "Caitlin"?

Race doesnt matter! A baby is a beautiful thing no matter what color her skin is. And you should name her whatever wonderful name you see fit when you see her little face for the first time.

Good luck!
Reply:I have always thought that Jacinda or Le-Andra had a pretty ring to it. They both have lots of nickname possibilities...

Reply:Breanna sounds like a good name, BUT you just have to make sure it sounds good with her last name too! Hope it helped.
Reply:I like the name Ebony Nicole. It's not just because of her color, but it is a beautiful name.
Reply:First off to "Sage", it does matter that it's an Af- Am baby. Unlike white pple, blacks are actually good at picking names and creative. AS long as they aren't ghetto.

Now to your ?, anything authentic, you should decide amongst your and your man, it's more meaningful then, than taking advice from the pple on here. Congrats and good luck!!!!
Reply:I think Leticia (pronounced Leh-TISH-uh), Marisa, or Erica (or Erika) are pretty names that aren't too "crazy".

Brennyn, Dayvia (pronounced DAY-via), Kiana, Monet (pronounced Mo-NAY) and Celise are a few names I think are pretty but a little more original...hopefully they don't strike you as being "crazy"! :)

Congratulations on your baby girl! Hope this has helped you!
