It is like they make them up, usually adding "La" to the begining. Why do they do that. Who wants to go through the world named LaQuisha?
Why do African Americans name their children weird names?
I've often wonder that myself after having taught in or near the inner city and having children in class such as Ikea, TaiKwon, Teronus (not the why she spelled it), Tequila (mom's favorite drink), and a vast number of made up words in which the whole family had rhyming names.
Reply:Kinda like naming race horses. Rather sad, actually. Report Abuse
Reply:Yes they should name their kid normal names like Brook, Meadow, Reagan, Montana, Stardust, Pointdexter, Archibald, Chloe, etc. Your weird is someone elses normal and your normal is someone elses wierd
Reply:My name's Vince.

Reply:They are probably using African Names and they speak a different language then you do , it would be as different as Maybe Japanese or Spanish. And to those used to hearing them spoken , they sound fine. It's just not what your used to.
Reply:I think ey do it to try to stay connected to their heritage. Although I doubt any africans back then had those names. Maybe they're just trying to differentiate their culture.
Reply:They think it makes them a big "star"....they are all egotistic monsters...why else do they have to have a white blonde girl.??? Most black women's names end in a "a", and most black males are named after famous white people.. example:
"George Washington Jones"
Reply:Is there a problem with that? Creative more than likely and it is not just Black people I think many ethnic people are creative as they don't like the "ordinary" names. I am a white woman and my children have creative names. I think you are generalizing alot here.
Reply:I once lived next to a LaQuada and her sister was named Boo. Too funny.
Reply:giving children "weird names" is a part of their culture.
if LaQuisha doesn't like her name, then she can have it changed, or ask to be called something else.
Reply:I always wondered the same because people in africa dont have names like Laquisha, or shavanda. But I like their unique names, it gives them more of a cultural identity, its like the blacks in the caribean and south america, when they left africa they left their languages, cultures,e.t.c and had to make their own, I think its what the african americans are doing in the U.S.
Reply:it sounds more exotic...........
Reply:they can't spell....................
Reply:Dat be tribal Africa names. Also name them afta medicine, like Tylenol, Advil, and Nyquil.
Reply:haha ive always thought about that too. Im half black but i dont have that kindof name (thank god) iguess its like how chinese people name there children, etc..
Reply:I'm white. My name is Daneen. And?
Reply:thay want to be "Different";not only in this area but in all others
music,attitude,dress?,street-language,...
thay are rejecting the "EUROPEAN" culture and "ENGLISH" Language of the USA!
Sadly, thay have infected the "MAJORITY" and all other "MINORITIES"!
Reply:It probably has something to do with their native language. And it probably means something to them, that you don't know.
