Where can I find information about African names?

I would love for my children to have an African last name, but I do no know where to find information on names or even a list of names.

Where can I find information about African names?
Pick your language first. Swahili is the most common language that we have records on in English. Nigerian is also pretty common. It's also possible to find a famous African and give your children that name so that they have a good role model.

Consider these:

Nelson Mandela (president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1993)

Wangari Muta Maathai (won 2004 Nobel Peace Prize)

Desmond Tutu (Anglican bishop and Nobel Peace Prize winner)

Haile Selassie, emperor of Ethiopia and leader of the Rastafarian movement.

Berber, Bennani and Hassan are the names of the royal family in Morocco
Reply:Here are some general sites with lists of African names:

I have been researching the name Cudjo, which is an African name from the Akans (who live in West Africa). They have something called day names. Their names depend on the day they are born, and each day signifies certain characters that the child will receive.
